Apple Cider Vinegar, Yay or Nay?

So this is interesting! I haven’t seen my girlfriend who now lives in San Jose for about 3 months and oh boy, when I saw her, she looked great! Needless to say, immediately I asked for her little “beauty secret”. She had shared with me that she’s been drinking this apple cider vinegar recipe and it’s been helping her shed some pounds, also given her a flatter stomach. I’ve heard this “old wives’ tale” before from my mom who’s been drinking apple cider vinegar for years but didn’t really believe it, somehow now hearing it again from my girlfriend, it’s really having an effect on me.

So I decided to give it a try (bringing my fiance along for the ride)!

I looked up the recipe and it’s consisted of:

  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 1-2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (I use BRAGG which is organic)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • a squeeze of lemon juice

I read the instruction on the BRAGG bottle and it specifically says to dilute the vinegar to 5% acidity. Now 1 tablespoon is about 6% of 1 cup, so I decided to only use 1/2 tablespoon of the concentrated apple cider vinegar and half the amount of honey (not a big fan of all the calories) with my 1 cup of hot water. First it didn’t smell too great but then I got used to it; and there is a little burning sensation in your throat when you’re drinking it.

Results?

Well, I’ve lost 2 lbs so far since I’ve started it 2 nights ago and I have not exercised nor changed my eating habits. I asked my fiance how he feels and he thinks it’s putting him in a ketosis state (I guess that’s a good thing). I’ll give this a try until my wedding and will update with the results.
